According to centuries-old tradition, Australia’s coins bear an effigy of the reigning monarch on their obverse.
Although new effigies are introduced rarely, as Australia's longest reigning monarch, there have been five previous effigies of Queen Elizabeth II on Australia’s coins. By Mary Gillick (1953), Arnold Machin (1966), Raphael Maklouf (1985), Vladimir Gottwald (used on the 50c Royal Visit coin in 2000 and on select numismatic coins), and Ian Rank-Broadley (1998). The new effigy by Jody Clark shows Her Majesty wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem, which was worn for her coronation.
This Six-Coin Uncirculated Set celebrates the historic change of effigy in 2019, with a different effigy of the Queen, from 1953 to 2019, on each coin.
